Six films about overcoming that everyone with scoliosis should watch

I've always been passionate about movies, just like books. I think in both cases, we can step out of our common comfort zone and travel to many places, absorb knowledge, have ideas for our work and personal life, and gain culture. One category that fascinates me is books and films about overcoming obstacles, which usually touch me deeply and teach me that everything is worth it in this life. When I see in the synopsis that it's based on a true story, I watch or read it right away. I love it!

People with scoliosis learn from an early age that overcoming challenges and rising above them is very important. Perhaps that's why I love movies about overcoming obstacles so much. With that in mind, and to share with you some of the ones I've watched and loved, I bring you a list of six movie recommendations for you to binge-watch during the weekend! Is there anything better than lounging on the couch with popcorn in hand and watching one movie after another?

1 - The Pursuit of Happyness (Netflix)

I've watched this movie about 5 times, no kidding. I love it so much that I'd watch it another 5 times, haha. Based on a true story, the film stars Will Smith as the main character, giving a remarkable performance as a single father who wants to provide a better life for his young son. There are plenty of sad and desperate situations he goes through, but overcoming it all is what it's all about, right?

2- The Theory of Everything (Netflix)

This movie is my passion. In a beautiful and emotional way, with a touch of dark humor, the film tells the story of Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest minds in science of our time, and his early diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. I shed buckets of tears at the end, every time.

3- Life Is Beautiful (Oldflix and Google Play)

This movie is the most beautiful thing in the world! There's nothing more beautiful than it. I've also watched it numerous times and never get tired of it. Highly awarded (Grand Prix at Cannes, Nine David di Donatello Awards, and Three Oscars, including Best Actor), the film portrays the unconditional love of a father for his son, who goes to a concentration camp but manages to face the days in a very positive way, thanks to the father's creativity at every moment.

4- Intouchables (Telecine)

I use to laugh during this movie, despite all the drama! A wealthy quadriplegic is taken care of by a man completely unprepared for the job, who does things in his own unique way. Their friendship grows, and together, they go through some very funny situations (even though one of them can't move).

5- Erin Brockovich (Netflix)

This recommendation is especially for the ladies. Starring the wonderful Julia Roberts (I think she's the most beautiful woman in the world), the actress shines as a single mother of three children who even runs out of money to eat. That's when the theme of overcoming and female strength comes into play!!! This film is a must-watch for those who enjoy stories of great determination. Julia rightfully won an Oscar for her performance in this movie.

6- Wonder (Netflix): films about overcoming

The main topic here is childhood bullying. Anyone with scoliosis can relate? Me!!! Who else? Anyway, this film, also starring Julia Roberts, tells the story of a boy born with a facial deformity who has undergone multiple surgeries and his struggles to deal with it all at school. He's the different one in the class and suffers a lot. But with the support of his parents, there's always overcoming! Very good, worth watching!

Everyone, these are my top recommendations for fantastic movies to watch whenever you're feeling down. Deal? Those who enjoyed them, let me know afterward!
