Hello everyone! June is the official month for scoliosis awareness. The idea is to spread the word about this issue more and more so people will detect it early, thus avoiding greater suffering with surgery, which remains risky and complex.

Did you know that, according to a study conducted in the United States and Canada, early diagnosis, coupled with proper treatment, prevents surgery in 70% of cases? And how to detect it, since scoliosis doesn't cause pain? A tip is to keep an eye on the following factors:

  1. The waist may appear uneven;

  2. Shoulders or hips may appear asymmetrical;

  3. One side of the ribcage or one leg may seem shorter than the other;

  4. The body leans more to one side.

The Adams Test - the basis for scoliosis identification - is crucial. In this test, the child or teenager bends forward with feet and hands together, without bending the knees, as shown in these photos below (yes, I'm still quite crooked, lol). If any unevenness appears on one side of the spine, seek a scoliosis specialist immediately. It is advisable to perform this test annually, especially in children and pre-teens.
